Bloomberg Outspends... the NRA?

My favorite gun grabber, Michael Bloomberg is spending more than the NRA in Colorado related to a recall of other gun-grabbing politicians.

For those of you keeping score at home, it's about 1800 miles from Bloomberg's New York home to Denver, Colorado. (Pack some beef jerky, that's about a 26 hour drive).

I don't know why, I get really agitated when outside interests step in. Sure, the NRA is an outside interest in Colorado as well - but at least they can provide in-state members. Bloomberg has what, friends? in Colorado?

Everybody this morning is shocked that a pop star would do something ridiculous and sexual in public. Imagine that...

Whatever. This is probably what's wrong with our society.

And I just contributed to it?

I'm pretty hands-off as it relates to foreign policy.

If it's not happening in my backyard and American lives aren't at risk, I pretty much stay out of it.

So, all the "unrest" in Egypt really doesn't matter to me.

But now, there is a chance it could impact gas prices.

Ok, you've got my attention.

Apparently Egypt doesn't export a ton of oil or other means of energy itself but it does play a pretty crucial role in making sure all that delicious Texas tea gets transported to the people who need it most. (Me...)

Stupid me, forgetting all about the Suez Canal.

Shell has closed its offices in Egypt.

After five straight days of increases, oil prices were down a bit Friday. We'll see what happens today, I suppose.

Open Up - It's the Police... With a Lawsuit!

What a bizarre story. A Sheriff's Deputy in Houston, Texas is suing a woman who called 9-1-1. The deputy responded to her home and was injured. The deputy claims the female 9-1-1 caller didn't warn the department of exactly what type of situation he was about to respond to. Apparently a man was in the home, had been using bath salts for days (yeah, I said bath salts), and when the deputy showed up, he decided it was time to fight. The deputy suffered cuts, bruises, a concussion and broken nose before shooting the salty man. (Records indicate the drugged up perp reached for the deputies gun which led to the shooting). Now, the deputy is suing. Crazy, right?

So I can't stand Piers Morgan. Even before he went crazy about gun rights I wasn't impressed with the job he was doing as the Larry King replacement on CNN.

So, I thought it was kind of funny when another replacement guy I can't stand (John Oliver, who is filling in for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show) said he'd pony up $10,000 for video of Piers Morgan falling off a segway from anyone who could produce it.

I wouldn't pay $10,000, but I'd like to see it.

While it's not the best video, Morgan decided that he'd offer the video up himself and try to collect the $10k bounty.

It's about :50 in, if you're curious.

Obama's NPR Cocktail Party

It seems logical that if I were to host a cocktail party, my boss would attend. Right?

So news that Obama attended a cocktail party at the home of a journalist employed by NPR shouldn't be a big surprise right? After all, NPR stations received nearly $70 million in the 2013 budget.

Except that the host in question is one of the national "stars" of NPR, Michelle Norris. (Or, you might make fun of the way she says her name, "me-shell" like I do).

Turns out Norris' husband is a lobbyist. Shocking.

Ready for the real kicker? 

Norris' husband worked on the Obama 2012 re-election campaign.

So yes, let's allow Norris to continue working as a "journalist" for what is at least a partially tax-payer funded salary, sleeping with a guy who has skin in the game for the highest office our country offers.

It's sad to me. I don't hate NPR with all my heart like many Republicans. They do a good job in terms of storytelling, production, and overall presentability. Typically, you get both sides of a story from NPR and especially while driving I've enjoyed some of their content. However, when one of your primarily personalities has ties this close to a partisan office, it's probably time to re-examine where your values lie as an organization. Especially a "news gathering" organization.
